I want to write the AP and AFP and complain

.In fact, I think we all should. Get it out there, spread the image, whatever, so everyone can see how the media is color coding this disaster.

Look at how they describe what they are doing

P.S., it's not behind a cut because I think everyone needs to see this, and not scroll past it like it's nothing, because this is some fucked up SHIT!

But you still complain
Black people always complain about not getting enough airtime, well here you go.

Now please explain to me what this picture has to do with survival:

It's just opportunism at it's finest.

Re: But you still complain
If bottled water/bottled beverages were all gone, beer is actually the next best thing to keep oneself hydrated. Historically, the creation of beer and mead came out of a necessity for a drinking source not contaminated.

Re: But you still complain
Obviously you have never taken biology or you'd know that beer has a DEHYDRATING effect on the body. He'd be better off drinking from the water he's wading around in.

Re: But you still complain
Um, actually I have, and I know that alcohol is a diuretic. However, if it's an option between a slightly dehydrating drink (that, if you drink constantly, will even out to not much of an impact) and drinking water that is full of dirt and raw sewage, I think he's better off drinking the beer.

Kthx.

Re: But you still complain
Not much of an impact? Like intoxication? LOL

Whatever you say, keep defending it, you're really helping the cause!

Re: But you still complain
I meant not much of an impact on the hydration, as that was the issue we were discussing.

I am "helping the cause", because I'm pointing out that your comments negatively depict what's going on in NOLA without much scientific or historical proof that you're right.

I think you'd be taking a much more effective tack if you said, "but maybe he was thirsty, and didn't think that far ahead, or doesn't know that alcohol has a diuretic effect, or has chronic alcoholism which will leave him with debilitating withdrawal effects if he stops drinking". It's a lot more plausible than "as a well-educated man, he knows that alcohol will have a diuretic effect, but has made an informed choice to stock up on the suds because blah blah blah".

Of course, it's also entirely plausible that he just wants to get drunk. It's not like you're under some sort of obligation to defend his actions, any more than the original poster would be if you showed him a picture of the Unabomber or Eric Rudolph and demanded that he "explain this". The original thesis was never, as far as I can tell, "no black people are looting; rather, everyone in New Orleans is acting in a rational and pragmatic way to preserve their lives and the lives of their loved ones". Is anyone claiming that?

Re: But you still complain
have you even been to fucking new orleans? locals know not to even *walk* through the quarter in flip flops and you're advising someone to not choose beer over floodwater contaminated with raw sewage, fresh dead bodies, dead bodies from the mausoleums, animal carcasses, natural gas leaks, chemical debri, etc etc.
you're a tool.
besides which, you can bet if my ass had just lost everything i owned, i'd be getting shitfaced as possible with the rest of em.

So, uh, they know not to even *walk* through the quarter in flip flops, but he'll wade through it no problem?

Makes sense! Good to see you're as pathetic and hopeless as the rest of the mob.

Re: But you still complain
i was making an exagerrated statement to depict the usual state of unsanitariness of that area. and i'd say when the water is up to your waist and you have to get out, you'll do whatever you can.

pathetic and hopeless? try again. fuck off.

Your ability to discuss the matter without resorting to profanity (repeatedly) proves the validity of the things you claim.

Re: But you still complain
You will not die from drinking beer, I hate to rain on your little tea-totalling parade, but if you consume the beer at a reasonable pace, you can subsist on beer alone to drink for some time. The liver will break down the alcohol. I did it for 3 days once. The trick is to not drink too much at once that the liver cannot handle it and you become intoxicated.

Do you not see the racism in this comment?

Exactly. That's disgusting. Why would anyone come to this community and say that? Sigh.

I think that could be rephrased "people in this community are complaining about not getting enough airtime" without losing the point the original poster was making. (I don't think the original poster is right, but I don't think his not-quite-subtle "I'm so disappointed in black people" subtext was the point.)

Of course there is a pic of white folks floating beer from a store out there and they still didn't call it looting.

Re: But you still complain
I'd make a sleazy joke something along the lines of "Don't you have a Klan meeting to attend?" but I have to go see if I can jump in front of a camera and get on the news.
