Black women and uterine fibroids

I'm about to be tested for this so I thought I'd post this in case some people have similar symptoms. African-American women are three times more likely than other ethnicities to have them.

What are uterine fibroids?

elephant in the room-- black women are much more likely to be vitamin d deficient. and once you get them, they tend to recur even with removal. hysterectomies are overprescribed for them as well.

that said, america offers the widest and best slate of surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for them because there are so many women with them here as compared to other countries.

pregnancy and breastfeeding are protective as well.

i used to keep up with this issue more, but i had surgery, started being pregnant and nursing all the time and haven't kept up with the latest developments, although it appears the vitamin d connection is quite solid and a promising avenue.

vitamin d status is a big proxy for a lot of health issues.

Oh hey thanks for that. Yeah I'm vitamin D deficient for at least most of the year. I've been popping two 1000IUs this past week, I wonder if that'll change things much.

Hysterectomies scare the shit out of me, not just because they're cutting an important organ out of you, but because of the horrific implications for the rest of your life in so many aspects.
