The racial implications of Isaiah Washington agreeing to receive a psychological assessment completely blows my mind.

I don't know what I'm more pissed about...the fact that his apology wasn't sufficient (in direct contrast to Michael Richards)
or the fact that he actually agreed to enter treatment.

I didn't think Michael Richards apology was anywhere near sufficient, and I think most people would agree with that. And I think it's very stupid that he is going to rehab for being a bigot...it is just so supremely dramatic...

I understand that he is a hateful and ignorant person. But therapy doesn't help that. Maybe he just needs to have his ass whopped.

But in all honesty, I think he agreed to it because he wants to keep his job. And his job knew that he had to do something or people would be outraged. So the treatment. I think Michael Richards would have had to do the same if Seinfeld was still on the air when he lost his fucking mind.

But Michael Richards doesnt have a job to keep. And he never will again. I think that counts for something.

But Michael Richards WANTS a job. He can't keep a job he can't get.

he is pretty much doing whatever he can to keep his job. but i do think this has been blown way out of proportion

I'm still kinda pissed . . . . . . .
that when he acted a fool on "Soul Food" to some unnamed actress, it was all Kool & the Gang.

His bad behavior on-set isn't new, I remember hearing thing many years ago. I actually thought that was why we didn't see him in that much after the 90's.

I think he just learned that you can't fuck with white people, regardless of orientation because most(?) white folks are going to take up for their own.

I think my daughter learned that in elementary school.

from TMZ in October. .
In the year 2000, Washington was shooting the TV show "Soul Food" for Showtime in Toronto. Washington and an actress, who played his wife, were shooting a scene in which Isaiah was supposed to give the woman a superficial kiss. We're told to the horror of everyone, Washington grabbed the woman and planted a "forceful, aggressive kiss." The actress became irate, which then infuriated Washington who began screaming at her. At that point the director stepped in to correct Washington, and the actor went off on him. Executive Producer Tracey Edmonds then took over and Washington went off on her.

I can't do the linky thingys.

so he hates gays *and* women?

Depending on the outcome of the evaluation will he still have a job? Will this be the only time he has to do this or is he looking at the next few years, or however long he stays on the show, spending 2 days a week/month in a doctor's office?

I know, right. They're gonna send his butt to psychologicalville, then fire his behind.
Jan. 24th, 2007 10:29 pm (UTC)
Well, when you got teh gays threatening boycotting the show, that cuts into revenue for the network, so they told isaiah, go to rehab or get fired.
Jan. 24th, 2007 10:36 pm (UTC)
They sent that muffka to detention. White people don't play. Shoo.

The History of White People Not Playing Subtitle: Since forever to the present
and that's the sad part of all this.

if that man dont know anything else, he should know that by now.

Po po Little Washingtons..in their Salvation Army clothes.

Not only was Michael Richard's apology not sufficent, but Isaiah Washington's wasn't either. That's fucked up and there's no excuse for that nonsense, doesn't matter who he was talking to, what he meant or that it was an "accident". That shit doesn't come out of the mouth of a man who isn't a bigot and he's welcome to be one, but he's not welcome to pretend he's not after he's showed his ass like that.
Jan. 24th, 2007 11:25 pm (UTC)
this is fucked in more ways than one. But it all comes down to, he's an idiot, pretty much has been for a long long time and he's doing this to save his job.

do you know the shit I will have to go thru with those white assholes to keep your black ass on the show now.."

Pretty much. Washington is not Halle Berry. And Rhimes isn't the person that has kept Berry's behind out of jail/on a viable career path.

Basically, white folks love to hang brown folks out to dry. And in this day and age of "Racism is bad, m'kay", they can't do that without worrying if brown folks will cry "Racism!" and make them look like they great-grandpappys. So when one of us royally f*cks up, white people start sharpening their knives so they can dine on that darkie for weeks on end.

I'm not defending Isaiah. He's not above reproach, but the reaction from the media and white folks in general (regardless of orientation) is nothing that hasn't been going on for years. His dumb ass just gave white folks an opening to be as racist as they want to be without fear of reprisal from the African-American community.

What. The. Fuck.

See, black people that behave 'out of line' are pathologized. GAH.

His apology wasn't sufficient at all, he should have kept his mouth shut! Anyway they're not thinking of him they're thinking of the show. He can't leave now.

It was an ignorant thing to say, but like it was said above this isn't the first time that he's acted like an ass. He wants to keep his job and I think Shonda wants him to stay too.

I can't picture anyone else playing Dr. Burke and he's the only one who can be Dr. Burke... besides they're not trying to change the lineup for a while because it works too well. I don't care how many fans latch on to Mer/Der it's the ensemble cast that makes the show work. If they mess with that even one bit it could screw everything up.

They don't give a kitty litter about his 'treatment' they just want to pacify things and move on so they won't have to fire him yet - he's too important to the show but it's heading that way if he doesn't get a grip.

i think he'd agree to give a blow job at this point, whitey holds the title deed to his job, so...
