NorCal Student: I Was Forced To Urinate In Class

POSTED: 11:57 am PDT April 26, 2007

A teacher in Sacramento forced an eighth-grader to urinate in a bottle while in class, the student and his mother say.

Sacramento Unified School District officials said they are investigating the allegation.

The student, 14-year-old Michael Patterson, said he had been drinking a sports drink all morning long, was late for class, but still needed to use the restroom.

Patterson said when he asked to use the restroom the teacher humiliated him and forced him to urinate in his science class while 31 other students turned their heads.

"I had a Gatorade bottle and I thought he was joking with me and he said, 'Go in the corner by the sink,'" Patterson said.

Patterson didn't want to get suspended, face the principal or have to tell his mother he was in trouble, he said.

"I did it," Patterson said. "While I was doing it he yelled, 'It stinks,' and he was laughing about it."

District officials said they are investigating the personnel matter and if the allegations are true, they will take appropriate action.

"I really honestly could not believe it," mother Kelly Jacko said. "I was really upset. I can't even describe how mad I was when I got that phone call."

Patterson said he was allowed to leave class to wash his hands and dispose of the urine-filled bottle. Patterson added that he is now being teased by the other students.

Patterson's mother said she wants his teacher fired.

"I think he owes my mom, my sister and me an apology," Michael Patterson

As much as I didn't need another trip to the office in those days, I would have told the teacher to bite me and went on to the bathroom.

That's one of those consequences be damned situations.

Not only does it already make no sense, but one would presume that the reasoning for doing such a thing would be that you don't trust this kid to leave the classroom (aside from the obvious humiliation factor). If that's the case, why let him go wash his hands and dispose of the bottle?

As for the teacher, someone needs to piss on him. And as for mom and the kid, is it fair to say they're... pissed off?

Sacramento City Unified School District is investigating allegations by an eighth-grader at Charles M. Goethe Middle School that he was forced to urinate in a bottle while in class because a teacher would not let him use the restroom, a district spokeswoman said Thursday morning. Maria Lopez said Goethe?s principal, Harriet Young, is looking into the allegation. Lopez said Young has interviewed the teacher and the student and is still talking with other students in the class to determine exactly what happened.

?We?re taking something like this seriously,? said Lopez, adding that it may take a couple days to finish the investigation. If the allegation proves true, Lopez said the teacher could face a range of consequences, from a letter of reprimand to dismissal. She wouldn't say whether the teacher had been the subject of any previous complaints.

it's a bus that was destroyed in iraq. i actually wasn't trying for hipster irony here--when i first saw the bus, i literally said "OMG WTF?" i believe this was near BIAP, but i can't remember now.

Yeah, a similar thing happened to my little cousin. She sat in class until tears were rolling down her cheeks because the teacher wouldn't let her leave to go to the bathroom. THEN the teacher sent her to the principal's office for "distrubing the class." For crying!

What happened to writing down 100 times on paper or the chalkboard "I will not be late to class"?

Writing on the chalkboard is considered corporal punishment compared to this?

I believe there's a place for CP in our schools because it teaches children consquences better than time-out ever does. But I am biased because I grew up in a disciplinarian environment. In my elementary school, teachers were granted permission by some parents to give spankings to their children if they misbehaved. We'd be forced to stand up and participate in the rest of class if we interrupted a lesson, etc. My daddy had his mouth rinsed out with soap regularly by nuns. I can't say I wouldn't be pissed if that was done to my child without my permission, but there's a healthy gray area somewhere. Chalkboard writing, eraser clapping, after-school cleanup...

*That should say, "We'd be forced to stand up and partcipate in the rest of class from the corner, if we interrupted a lesson, etc."
