This Weeks Topic: "Is it time to change the way we vote?"

For those who are curious as to why I think that we should change our laws to make voting much easier, should be reminded of what the Voting Rights Act of 1965 states:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a landmark piece of federal legislation in the United States that prohibits racial discrimination in voting. It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson during the height of the American Civil Rights Movement on August 6, 1965, and Congress later amended the Act five times to expand its protections.[7] Designed to enforce the voting rights guaranteed by the Fourteenthand Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, the Act allowed for a mass enfranchisement of racial minorities throughout the country, especially in the South. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Act is considered to be the most effective piece of civil rights legislation ever enacted in the country. (Source: WIKIPEDIA)

I am from Georgia, and if you are hip to your politcal knowledge, then you know that two very important figures came from that state.  One of them died for his causes, the other one is still living and is a US Congressman.  One stood up for justice for all, and other gave some blood on a bridge in Alabama.  The late Rev. Martin Luther King & Congressman John Lewis marched on Washington in 1963 and gave speeches to hundreds of thousands of people who were believers of equal rights and justice for all Americans.  50 years later, those efforts are being challenged by people who want things to go back the way it was......a segregated society.

I hope that if you watched my commentary, you will understand that i am a person who can see where this country is headed if we don't change some minds around here.  This country fought way too many battles to lose everything right now.

We are natural PROGRESSIVES......that means that we are always trying to make our lives better, no matter what party you are on.

And that's my Viewpoint.
